Nesa Nayanar was born in kampili (Karnataka) and was a weaver(Saliyar) by profession. Nesa Nayar shifted to Koorai Nadu in MayilAduthurai which is famous for weaving ‘Koorai Pattu’. He was also called as SivaNesan Nayanar because of his love towards Lord Shiva. He used to weave only cotton clothes. As he was weaving he used to chant the Panchakshram mantram “ na ma shi va ya” as his hands and legs were busy in weaving . He was a great shiva devotee and his mind was always focused on Lord Shiva. He used to make loin clothes and present them to devotees of Lord Shiva. Nesa Nayanar thoughts were so focussed on Lord shiva that he spent his every minute in chanting his name.He thought of God, lived for God, worked for God, devoted to God and loved Siva.

Poompuhar- Kannagi story in stone

Kannagi Kannagi is an embodient of Virtue in Tamilnadu. we can see Kannagi statue in Poompuhar where her right hand (Dakshina Hastam) is in Abhaya mudra . Abhay mudra means offering protection to people who submit to her feets. The left hand ( Vama Hastam) is in Kati mudra or Kati Vilambitha mudra. Kati means 'hip' and 'Vilambitha' means hanging. the hand is bend at wrist and placed beneath left of hip. the significance of this mudra is to offer protection to devotees i.e. in times of deluge the waters shall not go beyond the hip. We know that Poompuhar was once swollen by deluge. Hence the statue was placed with Kati hastam to protect the Poompuhar.
