Kannagi Kannagi is an embodient of Virtue in Tamilnadu. we can see Kannagi statue in Poompuhar where her right hand (Dakshina Hastam) is in Abhaya mudra . Abhay mudra means offering protection to people who submit to her feets. The left hand ( Vama Hastam) is in Kati mudra or Kati Vilambitha mudra. Kati means 'hip' and 'Vilambitha' means hanging. the hand is bend at wrist and placed beneath left of hip. the significance of this mudra is to offer protection to devotees i.e. in times of deluge the waters shall not go beyond the hip. We know that Poompuhar was once swollen by deluge. Hence the statue was placed with Kati hastam to protect the Poompuhar. Ushnisha Bhushana / Shriobestana Kirita Mukuta Mukuta means 'Crown' in sanskrit. Kirti means' Glory'. Kirita Mukuta is a conical crown or cylindircal crown with lot of ornamentation and adorned with gem stones of glory. The centre of front side of the crown has a jewel or a central motiff. The rest of the crown are covered with small designs. Kirita Mukuta symbolises royalty and adorns various forms of Vishnu and Surya. The crown has appearance of Taranga (ie waves). The base of Kirita Mukuta must be curved like a Ardha-Chandra(Crescent shaped)just above the forehead. The height of the Kirita Mukuta should be two or three times the length of the wearer's face. Aswini Kumars / Ashvins /Asvins/ Acvins Alternate Names: Aswins, Ashvins, Açvins, the Nasatyas, the Darsas, the Ocean-born (abdhi-jau), Wreathed-with lotuses (pusbara-srajau), Sons-of-the-submarine-fire (vadabeyau), Twin-undoers-of-illness (gadagadau), and Twin-celestial-physicians (svarga-vaidya).
