Heer and Ranjha

In Takht Hazara, a Village in Punjab near Sargodha there a lived a young man named Dheedo Ranjha. Ranjha ‘s father, Mauju   was a wealthy peasant who had eight sons to take care of his lands. Ranja was the youngest one and he was favourite in his village and his parents. Ranjha never had to do anything as he was youngest son and all work in the lands were taken care by his brother’s. He used to play flute all day long. He was like our Modern Krishna who enticed everyone with his flute music. Ranjha used to take his father’s cows and buffaloes for grazing and he would play the flute all day. His brothers resented that he did no work but was afraid to voice it in fear of their parents disapproval. Mauju died and his eldest son decided to take incharge of family affairs. Noori Jaam Tamachi is one of the seven love stories written by Shah Abdul Latif Bhitaj in his poetic book, Shah Jo Risalo. This is also another love story from Sindh.   This love story potrays how Noori was able to sustain Jaam Tamachi ‘s love with her obedience and domicile behavior. It is the only story of love fulfillment and happiness among the seven Noori was the daughter of fisher man who lived in a straw hut near Keenjhar Lake. Noori means “light” and she was as beautiful as a full moon.   She was not only beautiful but also good mannered unlike other fisherwomen who were uncouth and dark as they had to spent lot of time selling fish caught by their menfolk.   Fishermen live in small hut with straw roof as they relocate based on fish availability. Mommal and Rano Mommal and Rano is one of the seven tragic love story from Sindh. Sindh is the birthplace of many love stories. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai has written   the love story of Mommal and Rano in his collection of poem book,Shah Jo Risalo. Mommal and Rano is claimed to be part of Rajasthan and Sindh.   The protagonist of the story Mommal was well known beauty in Lodhruva. She lived with her sisters. Some say that she had seven sisters whereas some say she had nine. Some even say that they weren’t sisters but slaves who accompanied Mommal. Poompuhar- Kannagi story in stone

Kannagi Kannagi is an embodient of Virtue in Tamilnadu. we can see Kannagi statue in Poompuhar where her right hand (Dakshina Hastam) is in Abhaya mudra . Abhay mudra means offering protection to people who submit to her feets. The left hand ( Vama Hastam) is in Kati mudra or Kati Vilambitha mudra. Kati means 'hip' and 'Vilambitha' means hanging. the hand is bend at wrist and placed beneath left of hip. the significance of this mudra is to offer protection to devotees i.e. in times of deluge the waters shall not go beyond the hip. We know that Poompuhar was once swollen by deluge. Hence the statue was placed with Kati hastam to protect the Poompuhar.
